Demolition is done, the plans are permitted, and construction is officially underway at the future home of Arcade Comedy Theater. Members of the Arcade staff had the pleasure of getting a tour of the space during their bi-weekly construction meeting last week. The space may look raw, but it’s already starting to take shape: the ground floor bathrooms are being roughed in, the second floor has its subfloor down, and the elevator is… right now, just a giant hole in the ground.

One of the key objectives of the new Arcade theater is accessibility, highlighted by the beautiful new elevator being installed by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. In 943 Liberty, every patron will be able to buy a ticket on the first floor, check out the bathrooms on the ground floor, and then see a show on the second floor all without having to walk up a single step. The same will be true for those attending classes, workshops, or anything else happening at the Arcade.

We still have a long way to go before this place is ready, but even now the energy is palpable. More updates to come!
